Background: The word Songkran is from a Sanskrit word that is defined as “Astrological Passage“ or “a move or change in the position of the sun from Aries to Taurus”. It is Thailand’s longest and most important holiday. It marks a New Year for Thais and is usually celebrated from April 13 to 15. To foreigners it might sound like a bizarre kind of festival; with people running around town shooting each other with super-soakers. But it goes deeper than that. The Songkran festival is more than just a water fight festival. Based on tradition, Songkran is about family and religious worship. The water symbolizes the spring cleaning and the washing away of bad luck aspect of Songkran.
Concept: With that in mind, the combination of the hand drawn traditional Thai dancer and uses of the water color brings in a nice, refreshing feeling that really captures both the traditional religious side and the funner water fighting aspects of the holiday.
